Description

The diary was written by Sr Clare Molony, one of the Mercy Sisters from the Ennis community who went on mission to Hokitika, New Zealand, in 1858. It describes their sea journey on the 'Garonne' which took from Aug 1st to Oct 15th. As well as Sr Clare, the group included her niece, Kate, who was then a postulant, Srs Mechtilde Boland, Angela O'Keeffe, Cecilia Sheehan, Julianna Ryan, Aloysius McGrath, Gabriel O'Kennedy, Claver Ryan, and Katie Ryan, a postulant and the younger sister of Sr Claver.
